Oh, what a feeling! The longest day of the year is almost upon us, and here at Fancy Farmerettes, we're practically buzzing with excitement! Summer Solstice, that magical moment when the sun graces us with its most generous embrace, always feels like a fresh start, a vibrant reawakening after the quieter rhythms of spring. And let's be honest, after the rainy, gray, and often up-and-down temperatures we've had this spring, we're more than ready for some consistent sunshine! This year, the Solstice is bringing with it a whole new chorus of chirps and cheeps to our little slice of paradise in Scotland, Ontario!

That's right, folks – our humble homestead is about to get a whole lot livelier! We've been practically bouncing off the walls, counting down the days until we welcome 14 adorable baby chicks to our flock! Just imagine the tiny fluff balls, the happy peeping, the endless hours of watching them explore their new world. Our hearts are already overflowing with anticipation!

These aren't just any chicks, either. We've carefully chosen some truly spectacular heritage breeds, known for their unique beauty and delightful personalities. Get ready to fall in love with the sophisticated charm of the Welsummers, with their beautiful dark brown eggs; the stunning, fluffy cheeks of the Ermine Ameraucana, who will delight us with gorgeous blue eggs; the rich, chocolatey brown egg layers of the Wheaten Marans; and the majestic, gentle giants that will be our Croad Langshans. Each one will be a little feathered treasure, bringing its own special something to our growing farmerette family.

We've been so incredibly fortunate to source these precious new additions from two fantastic Ontario breeders: Red Brick Roost and The Motley Coop. We know they've been raised with such care and dedication, and we can't wait to continue that tradition here, showering our new arrivals with all the love and attention they deserve.

The brooder is ready, the feed is stocked, and our arms are practically aching for those first cuddles. There's something so incredibly nurturing and fulfilling about raising chickens, watching them grow from tiny, vulnerable chicks into curious, characterful hens. It's a journey we're always thrilled to embark on, filled with valuable lessons and endless joy.

So, as the sun reaches its zenith this Summer Solstice, casting its warm glow over our little farm, we'll be celebrating not just the abundance of the season, but the arrival of our new feathered friends.
